Winter Wonderland

We woke to some snow this morning on local hills- which is a first in the 10 years we've been here in New Zealand- Which means my kids had never seen snow, so we went up the valley to Tunnel Gully to see the snow :-)

Inspired by the really wintery weather I've made this card for the Paper Players CAS Sketch Challenge.
I didn't keep it very simple I'm afraid- I love my glitter and ribbon too much.
I've brayerd and sponged the scene, using masking and the tree from the Lovely as a Tree set (SU). Then I've added some Iridescent white powder and dazzling Diamonds and some green Stickles.
The photo's not the best- light is at a premium, beacuse of the wintery weather. Stay warm.

Summer Holidays

Hazel has picked the theme for this fortnights challenge at the Craft Room is Summer Holidays.... now obviously I'm still in the depths of winter here in New Zealand... We even had snow here yesterday which is very unusual- but pleased my kids, who'd never seen snow before.
So I the colours on my card are really bright!!!

I can't wait to see what you come up with this challenge- as the Butterfly entries have been gorgeous.

Butterflies at Craft Room Challenge

It's mine turn to chose the challenge over at Craft Room Challenge and for this fortnight I've chosen the Theme Butterflies.
I chose the theme after stumbling across this quote by Prevo Levi (1919-1987) he was a writer, chemist and survivor of Auschwitz.

"The butterfly's attractiveness derives not only from colors and symmetry:deeper motives contribute to it. We would not think them so beautiful if they did not fly, or if they flew straight and briskly like bees, or if they stung, or above all if they did not enact the perturbing mystery of metamorphosis:the latter assumes in our eyes the value of a badly decoded message, a symbol, a sign."

With my butterfly piece I wanted to capture some of the mystery, hope and sometimes despair of the world we live in.

I prepped my canvas with some pretty paper, gessoed and then with ink drew the lady. I've then painted with gouache. The butterflies as well as being in the background have been cut with the SU Bigz Die Beautiful Butterflies. They are cut and stamped mostly in Vellum. I also cut some smaller butterflies using the Beautiful Wings Die.

I can't wait to see what you all create :-)

I go with my little lantern

Last night was the Midwinter Festival, with the weather looking dodgey all day, we were actually blessed with enough dry weather for the children to walk the spiral with their lanterns and for us to sing songs around the bonfire. Then into the classrooms for stories and soup :-)

Not to feel left out, I thought I would make my own lantern ( not a patch on the kids ones of course) I made a little one with the Scallop Square Duo and a bigger one with A4 card, which I scallop edged. I've used artificial tea lights.
